People in this group want a fair society. They believe in democracy. This means people should vote on big choices. They also want a socially owned economy. This means the community owns things like tools and land. Workers should have a say in how they work. This is called workplace democracy.

In the past, some leaders were not fair. They used a system called Marxism-Leninism. This system was often not democratic. Democratic socialists do not like that way. They want to make changes in a kind way. Some want to change things slowly. Others think big changes must happen all at once.

Some people use capitalism to help people. They build a welfare state. This gives help to those in need. But democratic socialists want to change the whole system. They want to move from capitalism to socialism. They want to make sure everyone is equal.

Many countries have used these ideas. France and Sweden have had socialist parties. These leaders worked to make life better for all.
