It is called *De Officiis*. This name means "On Duties." Cicero wrote it in 44 BC. He wrote it in less than four weeks. He was 62 years old at the time. He wrote the book as a letter to his son. He wanted to teach his son how to live a good life.

The book has three parts. The first part is about being honorable. It looks at four parts of being good. These are truth, justice, bravery, and being polite. The second part is about what is good for a person. It talks about gaining wealth or power in a fair way. The third part is about hard choices. It asks what to do when being good seems to hurt your own gain. Cicero says being good is always the best way.

Many people have studied this book for a long time.
