Starlight is even dimmer than that. On a moonless night, starlight is about 0.0002 lux. Even the planet Venus is only 0.0001 lux. Daylight is always the brightest part of our world.

This can be so dark that shadows from distant street lights become visible. 
Sometimes, unusual circumstances can make the day much darker than normal. A solar eclipse can cause a sudden drop in light. High levels of atmospheric particulates can also block the sun. Particulates are tiny pieces of matter floating in the air. These include dust, volcanic ash, and smoke. There was even a historical event called New England's Dark Day caused by smoke. In these extreme cases, the light can fall below 1 lux. 
We can understand the power of daylight by comparing it to nighttime illuminance. Nighttime is significantly dimmer than any daylight condition. Moonlight on a clear night sky is less than 1 lux. A full Moon on a clear night is only 0.25 lux. A quarter Moon provides only 0.01 lux. Starlight and airglow on a moonless night are even lower, at 0.0002 lux. If you exclude airglow, starlight is 0.00014 lux. Even the brightest planet, Venus, is only 0.0001 lux on a clear night. 
Daylight is a complex system of light and atmosphere. It connects the movement of our planet to the physics of light. The way light bends and scatters determines how we see our world. It affects everything from how much energy we receive to how we see shadows. Understanding these levels of lux helps scientists study the atmosphere and the sun.
