Packard was also a leader in the United States government. He worked to help the military manage its resources more effectively. His life was filled with science, leadership, and helping others.

Building a huge company started with a simple coin flip. Packard and his partner, Bill Hewlett, had to choose a name. They flipped a coin to decide between HP and PH. They chose HP, which is the name we know today. Their very first product was an audio frequency oscillator. This tool helps people work with sound. They even sold eight of these tools to Walt Disney Studios. These were used to test sound equipment for the movie Fantasia.
