In 1302, Dante was condemned to exile for two years and accused of financial wrongdoing. 
Dante spent his remaining years traveling as a guest in various cities. He lived in places such as Verona, Sarzana, and Lucca. Despite the bitterness of his exile, he continued to write and refine his ideas. He died in September 1321. His remains were eventually laid to rest in Ravenna, Italy, where his tomb can still be visited today.
