This idea is very old. In Greek myths, a hero named Perseus saved Andromeda from a sea beast. In fairy tales, a prince might save Snow White from a witch.

During the Middle Ages, knights used this idea. They followed a code called chivalry. This code told them to protect ladies with honor. Later, the danger changed to fit the times. In old movies, a woman might be tied to a train track.

In modern comics, characters like April O'Neil often need help from the Ninja Turtles. Even in magic shows, magicians use this idea. They might pretend to put a lady in danger with blades. These stories use fear to make the hero look brave. They make us cheer when the hero wins.
