She found a new way to teach math. In 1997, she saw a paper model. It showed a shape called a hyperbolic plane. The paper model was very fragile. Taimiņa wanted a better way to show this shape. She used yarn and a crochet hook instead.

She used math rules to make her crochet patterns. These patterns make the yarn grow very fast. This creates a special, wavy shape. Her students loved to touch the models. They said feeling the shapes helped them learn. This is called tactile learning. It means learning by using your hands.

Now, many people see her work as art. Her crochet models are in big museums. Some people even use her ideas to make art about coral reefs. Taimiņa shows that math can be beautiful and fun to touch.
