Dad's Army is a famous British comedy show.

It tells stories about the Home Guard. This was a group of local volunteers. They helped protect England during World War II. Many members were not regular soldiers. Some were too old for the army. Others had jobs that kept them at home.

The show is set in a fake seaside town. The actors play men with many different jobs. Captain Mainwaring is a bank manager. He leads the group. Sergeant Wilson is his deputy at the bank. Lance Corporal Jones is a local butcher. He often says, "Don't panic!" even when he is worried. Private Pike is the youngest member. He often wears a thick scarf.

The show uses humor to tell these stories. Some jokes are silly. Others come from how the men act. People love the show very much. It was one of Britain's best sitcoms.
