It is for the best clubs in South America. The tournament started in 1960. It is named after the Libertadores. These were leaders who fought for freedom in South America.

Many teams work hard to play in this cup. They must win games in their own countries first. Some teams play in groups. Then they play in knockout rounds. In these rounds, a team must win to stay in the cup. The final game happens in November.

Winning this cup is a huge honor. The winner can play in the FIFA Club World Cup. This is a global contest. One team from Argentina, Independiente, has won seven times. Brazilian clubs have won many titles too. They even won seven times in a row starting in 2019.

The winner gets a beautiful trophy. A man named Alberto de Gasperi made it. It has a player at the top made of bronze. The rest of the top is silver. The base is made of wood. It holds small badges. Each badge shows the name of a winning club and their city.
