In 1959, Waldo Tobler wrote about using computers for maps. He used a system called MIMO. This system helped turn paper maps into digital ones. Later, maps moved from paper to screens. By the mid-1990s, most maps were made on computers.

Digital maps do more than paper maps. You can see views from satellites in the sky. You can even see 3D maps of the land. Some maps show live traffic. This helps drivers find the best way to go.

Many tools help make these maps. One tool is GPS. This stands for Global Positioning System. It is a network of satellites in space.

Here is how GPS works. A receiver on Earth talks to at least four satellites. The satellites give the receiver exact points. We call these points coordinates. The software uses these points to find your location. It then finds the best path to your goal. If you take a wrong turn, the map finds a new way. This happens in real time.
