It works in many different ways to provide media and technology. The company is the largest home internet service provider in the United States. It is also the second-largest cable TV company based on how many people use it. Comcast provides telephone services to customers in 40 states and the District of Columbia. It even has a mobile phone service called Xfinity Mobile. This company is so large that it ranks 51st on the Forbes Global 2000 list.

Comcast works by owning both the things people watch and the paths used to watch them. This is a two-part way of working. First, they make content like movies and news through NBCUniversal. They own famous studios like Universal Pictures and DreamWorks Animation. They also own the Peacock streaming service for watching shows online.

Second, they own the networks that carry this information to your home. They use cable and internet connections to send shows to your TV or computer. This means they handle both the making of shows and the delivery of those shows. This setup has caused some people to worry about fair competition.

The story of Comcast began a long time ago in 1963.

Ralph J. Roberts and two partners bought a small business called American Cable Systems. At that time, it was a tiny operation in Tupelo, Mississippi. It only had five channels and 12,000 customers. In 1969, the company changed its name to Comcast Corporation. By 1972, the company became a public company on the NASDAQ stock exchange.

In 1990, Ralph's son, Brian L. Roberts, became the president of the company. He has helped lead the company through many big changes.

Comcast grew much larger by buying other big companies over many years.

In 2001, Comcast announced it would buy AT&T Broadband for $44.5 billion. This huge deal was finished in 2002. After this, Comcast became the largest cable TV company in the United States. It suddenly had over 22 million subscribers. The company also grew by buying NBCUniversal in 2013. This gave them control over many famous television networks like NBC and Telemundo. They also bought the Sky Group in 2018 to grow even more.

Many things you use every day might be part of the Comcast family. If you watch a movie from Illumination, you are watching a Comcast studio.

If you use Xfinity for your home internet, you are using their service. They even run theme parks through their Universal Destinations & Experiences branch. You might see their service vans on the road in your town.

While the company is very successful, it has faced hard jobs too. Some people have criticized how they treat customers or how they manage internet speeds. Even with these challenges, Comcast remains a giant in the world of media.
