Clifford's journey with music started in Wilmington, Delaware. He grew up in a family that loved music. His father even organized his four sons into a vocal group. When Clifford was ten, he saw his father's shiny trumpet and felt fascinated. By age thirteen, his father bought him his own trumpet. He took private lessons to help him learn. Later, he studied with Robert Boysie Lowery and played in jazz groups. He even attended college, studying math before switching to Maryland State College. In that school, he played in a fourteen-piece jazz band.

Clifford's career was full of amazing musical moments. He worked with many great artists like Art Blakey and Lionel Hampton. One important time was when he played with the famous saxophonist Charlie Parker. Parker was so impressed that he told Clifford, "I don't believe it." Clifford also worked with the legendary Dizzy Gillespie. In the mid-1950s, he formed a special group with drummer Max Roach. This was called the Clifford Brown/Max Roach Quintet. They used a standard bebop setup with trumpet, saxophone, piano, bass, and drums. This group really shocked the jazz world with their talent.

Clifford lived a very disciplined and clean life. He avoided drugs and did not like alcohol. His friend Sonny Rollins said Clifford showed him how to be a great musician while living a good life. Clifford was also a very hard worker. He would do lip and mouth exercises all day to improve his trumpet playing. In 1954, he married a woman named Emma LaRue Anderson. He called her "Joy Spring" as a sign of his love. They had a son together named Clifford Brown Jr. in 1955. Clifford's life was cut short by a car crash in June 1956. He was only twenty-five years old at the time.

Today, the world still honors Clifford Brown's wonderful legacy. Many musicians have written songs to remember him. A famous song called "I Remember Clifford" was written by Benny Golson. This song has been played by many artists to pay tribute to him. His music is still heard on many albums, like "Study in Brown." Even his family keeps his music alive. His grandson, Clifford Benjamin Brown III, plays the trumpet today. His nephew, Rayford Griffin, also makes music that remembers Clifford's style. Clifford's talent continues to inspire new musicians everywhere.
