She wrote about art for many years. She worked for the Chicago Tribune. She wrote about music, dance, and plays.

Cassidy had very strong opinions. Some people called her "Acidy Cassidy." This was because she gave harsh reviews to bad shows. She did not like shows that traveled from Broadway. Her words could be very tough. One music leader even left town because of her.

But her kind words were also very strong. She helped many plays become big hits. She wrote great things about "The Glass Menagerie." This helped the show move to Broadway. She also praised "A Raisin in the Sun." This play became a success too.

She helped the Lyric Opera of Chicago grow. She also helped a leader named Fritz Reiner lead the Chicago Symphony. In 1975, she won a Joseph Jefferson Award. She lived for 96 years. Now, a theater in Chicago is named for her. It is the Claudia Cassidy Theater.
