Claude-Louis Navier was a famous French engineer and physicist. He studied how objects move and bend. This study is called continuum mechanics. He also worked with math to build things.

Navier built many bridges in France. One bridge in Paris had a big problem. It began to crack. A group of leaders said he used too much math. They said he did not leave enough room for safety. The bridge had to be taken apart.

Even so, Navier made great discoveries. He helped people understand how materials bend. This is called elasticity. He also studied how liquids and gases move. These ideas are part of fluid mechanics. He helped write the Navier–Stokes equations. These math rules help us understand fluids.

Navier was a great teacher. He taught at two big schools in France. He also joined the French Academy of Sciences. His work helped start modern structural analysis. This is the way people study how to build strong things. Today, his name is on the Eiffel Tower.
