Christopher Columbus Langdell was a famous law teacher. He was born in 1826 in New Hampshire. He studied at Harvard for many years. Later, he worked as a lawyer in New York City. In 1870, he became the Dean of Harvard Law School. A Dean is a leader of a school.

Langdell changed how students learn law. Before him, teachers just told students the rules. Langdell used the case method. This is a way where students study real cases. They use their own minds to find answers. This method is now used in many schools. It is used for business and teaching too.

He also made the school better in other ways. He made the program three years long. He said law is like a science. He believed students needed many books. Because of this, he built a large law library.

Langdell wanted all students to be treated fairly. He started blind grading. This means teachers do not see names when grading. This helps students from poor families. They get the same chance as rich students. He died in 1906. Today, a building at Harvard is named after him.
