Scientists use signs to show how things mix.

These signs are like maps. They show what you start with. They also show what you make.

We put the starting things on the left. We put the new things on the right. A plus sign goes between them. An arrow points to the new things.

Sometimes we add a number. This number shows how much we have. If there is no number, it means one.

We can also show if things are solid or gas.

Small signs tell us this.

This helps us keep track of everything. It is a great way to see science work.
