In 1923, he helped lead a group to solve a crisis in Europe. This plan used loans from American banks to help Germany's economy. These loans helped Germany pay money to France and Belgium. This work helped reduce tension between those countries. Because of this, he won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1925. In 1924, he was chosen as the vice president running mate for Calvin Coolidge.

Beyond his political life, Dawes had a very creative side. He was a self-taught pianist, a flutist, and a composer. He wrote a piece called "Melody in A Major" in 1912. This music was played at many official events he attended. Years later, the song became a famous pop hit called "It's All in the Game." He is the only U.S. vice president to have a number-one pop hit.
