Characterization

arts Maturity 11-13 Next article →

Stories have people in them. We call them characters. A writer shows us who they are. They can tell us directly. They can also show us through actions. This is called characterization.

We learn about them by how they act. We see how they look. We hear how they talk. This is their voice. Their voice shows their true self.

Some characters are simple. They stay the same. Other characters are complex. They are like real people. They have many different sides.

Actors also help us see characters. They use their own style. They use costumes to help. This makes the story feel real. It is fun to watch them live.
