In 1585, a Spanish explorer named Alonso de Vera y Aragón founded a settlement. It was called Concepción de Nuestra Señora, but people left in 1632. Later, a place called Campo del Cielo became famous. This area is on the border of Chaco and Santiago del Estero. Long ago, iron meteorites fell there.

History in the region is deeply connected to its people and the stars. Native groups like the Toba and Wichí have lived here for a long time. They belong to the Mataco-Guaicru language family. In 1585, Alonso de Vera y Aragón founded the first European settlement. It was called Concepción de Nuestra Señora. However, the settlement was abandoned in 1632 due to attacks. Another famous site is Campo del Cielo. This area is on the border of Chaco and Santiago del Estero. About four to five thousand years ago, iron meteorites fell there. This site is now a protected region.
