This name describes ways of faith in Celtic-speaking lands. These areas include Ireland and Great Britain. This was true during the Early Middle Ages.

Some thinkers say there was a separate "Celtic Church." They thought it was different from the Roman Church. However, many modern scholars do not agree. They say these people were still part of the wider Christian world. They still respected the Pope in Rome.

Instead of being a separate group, they had special ways of doing things. They had a unique way to pick the date for Easter. They also had a special way to cut hair, called a tonsure.

Some people even went on special journeys called "exile for Christ."

These traditions grew in the 6th and 7th centuries. Saint Patrick may have brought ideas to Ireland. Later, Saint Columba helped spread ideas from Ireland to Great Britain.
