She was born in 1894 in a town in Europe. Her family later moved to Canada. Cecilia was a very smart student. She earned a Ph.D., which is a top math degree. In 1930, she became the first woman in Canada to earn this degree in math. She was also the third woman in Canada to get a doctorate in any subject.

Cecilia worked at the University of Toronto for many years. She was a teacher in the math and engineering departments. She also translated math books into English. This helped other people study topology. Topology is a part of math that looks at shapes.

Cecilia helped many women in the math world. In 1995, a group called the Canadian Mathematical Society made a special award. They call it the Krieger–Nelson Prize. It goes to women who do great research in math. This prize honors both Cecilia Krieger and Evelyn Nelson. Cecilia lived until 1974. She kept teaching even after she retired.
