Caspian tigers were very big. They were among the largest cats in the world. They were similar in size to the Siberian tiger. They lived in forests and near rivers. They hunted animals like wild pigs and deer.

Many things caused them to disappear. People hunted the tigers for their skins. People also hunted the animals that tigers ate. This left the tigers with no food. People also changed the land. They turned forests and river areas into farms for crops like cotton. This took away the places where tigers lived. By the 1970s, they were gone.
