Sometimes the heart suddenly stops beating. This is called cardiac arrest.

When the heart stops, blood cannot move. It cannot reach the brain or other parts. This can make a person pass out.

This often happens because the heart beats in a strange way. It may not have a steady rhythm.

Doctors use special tools to help. They can use chest presses called CPR.
