Carbon sequestration is a way to store carbon.

It helps manage the carbon cycle. This can help limit climate change. This happens in two main ways. One way is biologic. This is a natural way using living things. Plants take carbon dioxide from the air to grow. They turn it into biomass. Biomass is the material that makes up a plant.

Forests and kelp beds are great at this. However, these stores can be temporary. Wildfires or disease can let the carbon back out.

The other way is geologic. This uses technology to store carbon. People can put it deep underground. They can also put it under the sea. Some methods use mineral sequestration. This turns carbon into salt. These salts stay locked away for a long time. They can stay for millions of years. This makes them very stable.

Scientists also study seaweed farming. They might move seaweed to the deep ocean. This could help store much more carbon.
