Caracalla and his brother Geta ruled together for a short time. But the brothers did not get along. Caracalla had Geta killed by guards. This made Caracalla the only ruler of Rome.

Caracalla did many big things. He made a law called the Edict of Caracalla. This law gave Roman citizenship to all free people in the empire. This helped people feel like equal partners. He also built the Baths of Caracalla.

Life was not always easy during his rule. There were fights with other groups of people. Caracalla also ordered many deaths in the empire. In 217 AD, a soldier killed him. A man named Macrinus became the new leader three days later.
