technology Maturity 11-13 Next article →

Business journalism is a special part of news. It tracks how money and trade move through society. These writers record and study economic changes. They look at how businesses and markets work. This helps people understand the world of commerce. You can find these stories in many places. They appear in newspapers, magazines, radio, and TV shows.

Business journalists follow a specific way of working. They gather information about current events. They look for new trends in the market. They also study the results of business changes. Some reporters focus on big companies. Others study the whole economy or specific trades. They share what they find through mass media. This helps everyone stay informed about money.

This kind of news has a long history. It began as far back as the Middle Ages. Back then, it helped trading families talk to each other. In the 1400s, the House of Fugger had a paper called Neus Zeitungen. Merchants loved to read it. Around 1700, Daniel Defoe started writing economic news. He is also famous for writing the book Robinson Crusoe.

Many famous news names grew from these early days. In 1869, John J. Kiernan started a news bureau. He used electric power to send news to stockbrokers. In 1888, the London Financial Guide became the Financial Times. The Wall Street Journal began in 1889. In 1902, Ida Tarbell wrote about the Standard Oil Co. Her work showed how to report on companies.

Today, business news is more important than ever. Trade happens all over the world now. Many people have retirement accounts or stocks. This means market changes affect many lives. The Wall Street Journal is a very respected paper in the USA. In 2022, an IPSOS survey called the Financial Times a leader in Europe. Experts think news jobs might drop by 3% by 2032.
