Long ago, Bushehr was a small fishing village. In 1734, a leader named Nader Shah made it a base for ships. He even brought heavy wood from 1,000 km away to build a large warship. Later, the city became a busy place for trade. The Dutch and British companies both had posts there. In the 1800s, it became the most important port in Iran.

Life in Bushehr can be tough. The summer heat and humidity are very high. The water in the wells is salty. In the past, large ships could not reach the shore. They had to stay four km away in the bay. Passengers used small boats to reach the land.

Today, many people live in the city. In 2016, over 223,000 people lived there. There is also a nuclear power plant nearby. It is twelve km from the city. The plant helps make electricity for the country.
