They like to eat at night. These sharks have two types of teeth. The teeth in the front are sharp for grabbing. The teeth in the back are flat. They use these flat teeth to crush hard shells. This helps them eat things like sea urchins. They also eat soft things like octopuses.

Their bodies can be grey, brown, or red. Many have spots or stripes. They have sharp spines on their fins. These spines help keep them safe from bigger animals.

Bullhead sharks lay eggs in special cases. These cases look like a tool called an auger. An auger is a tool that twists. The cases have spiral parts on them. This shape helps the eggs wedge into rocky cracks. This keeps the eggs safe from predators. Some females lay eggs in a group called a nest. The babies are quite large when they hatch. They can be over 14 cm long. It takes 7 to 12 months for the eggs to hatch.
