Brahmapur is a busy city on the eastern coast of Odisha, India. It is the fourth most populous city in the state. Many people call it the "Silk City" because of its beautiful silk sarees. It is also known as the "food capital of Odisha." The city's name may come from a Hindu deity named Brahmeswara. This deity is worshipped in a temple located just 4 km from the city at Lathi.

The weather in Brahmapur changes with the seasons. In the hot month of May, temperatures can reach 40 °C. The winters are much cooler, with temperatures around 22 °C in January. Brahmapur has a very long history. Long ago, it was part of the ancient Kalinga empire. A nearby place called Jaugada was an ancient fort and city. It existed from the 3rd century BC until the 7th century AD. Later, the region was part of the Maurya Empire. In the 1600s, weavers from Rajahmundry moved to the city. They settled there to make silk products called Patta Matha.

Modern life in the city is very active. The Brahmapur railway station is one of the oldest in Odisha. It began working in 1900 and sits on a main line between Howrah and Chennai. People also love watching plays and movies here. The Sri Sitaram Vilas Talkies was the oldest movie hall in Odisha. It opened in 1927, but it closed after a big cyclone in 1999.
