Making a movie involves many careful steps. Bong started by making short films in college. He even worked as a lighting technician on some projects. Later, he moved to making full-length feature films. He often works with other artists to tell a story. Sometimes he writes the script himself. Other times, he works with a team of writers. This helps him create the sudden shifts in tone he is known for.

Bong's journey began in Daegu, South Korea. He was born on September 14, 1969. His father was an artist and a professor. His grandfather was also a well-known author. When Bong was a student, he lived near the Han River. One day, he thought he saw a monster by a bridge. He promised himself he would make a monster movie one day.

He fulfilled that dream in 2006 with a film called The Host. This movie was about a creature in the Han River. It was a huge hit with 13 million tickets sold in South Korea. In 2013, he made Snowpiercer, his first English-language film. His most famous work is the 2019 film Parasite.

Parasite was the first non-English film to win Best Picture. It also won awards for Best Director and Best Original Screenplay. This was a very big moment for South Korean cinema.

Bong's work connects different parts of the world. Even though many of his films are South Korean, they are loved everywhere. He has worked on Hollywood co-productions like Okja and Mickey 17.

His films show up at big festivals like the Cannes Film Festival. These movies help people from different countries understand new ideas. He remains one of the most influential directors in the world today.
