People have made these lists for a long time. In the year 1215, England made the Magna Carta. This was a list of rights for barons. Later, England made the Bill of Rights in 1689.

This list helped shape other rules. It influenced the Virginia Declaration of Rights in 1776. It also helped the United States. The United States Bill of Rights was ratified in 1791.

In 1789, France made a list too. It was the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen. This happened during the French Revolution. These old lists helped make new ones. In the 1900s, people used them to make the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. They also helped make rules for children. These rules help keep people safe today.
