History in Bihar includes many famous dynasties and leaders. The Haryanka dynasty ruled Magadha from the city of Rajgriha. Later, the Gupta Empire rose in Magadha in 240 CE. This era is often called the Golden Age of India. It was a time of great progress in science, math, and philosophy. Later, the Sur Empire was founded by the ruler Sher Shah Suri.

The colonial era brought significant changes to the region. After the Battle of Buxar in 1764, the British East India Company gained rights to collect taxes. This area was part of the Bengal Presidency until 1912. During this time, leaders like Mahatma Gandhi visited Champaran. He worked with local leaders to help peasants facing exploitation by indigo planters.
