In this dance, the body moves in special ways. Most of the work happens in the torso. This is the middle part of the body. Dancers focus on their hips and stomach. They do not move their arms and legs as much as other dances.

There are many ways to move. Some moves are percussive. These are sharp hits that match the drum beats. Other moves are fluid. These are smooth and wavy like water. Dancers also use shimmies. A shimmy is a fast, tiny shake of the hips.
