He was born in 1879 in Bohemia. He studied many ways of writing. He learned how to read cuneiform. This is a way of writing with wedge shapes. One day, he solved a big mystery. He looked at old clay tablets. He found a sentence about bread and water. The word for water looked like our word. This helped him read the Hittite language. He showed it was part of the Indo-European family. This is a large group of languages.

He was also a great leader. He worked at Charles University in Prague. He was the rector, which is a top leader. During a hard time in 1939, he helped his students. He told officers they had no right to take them. He also led a team to find old tablets. These tablets had letters from merchants. Hrozný helped us understand the past through words. He died in 1952. His work started a new field of study. We call this study Hittitology.
