Bayer is one of the largest pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies in the world.

Based in Leverkusen, Germany, the company works in many different areas. These include making medicines, consumer healthcare products, and seeds for farms. They also create agricultural chemicals and biotechnology products. Because it is so large, Bayer is part of the EURO STOXX 50 stock market index. The company plays a major role in how we treat sickness and grow food today.

Many of Bayer's most famous products changed how people live.

In 1925, Bayer merged with five other companies to form a huge group called IG Farben. During World War II, IG Farben worked with the Nazi party. The company used forced labor from concentration camps to work in its factories. They also performed dangerous and harmful medical tests on people in those camps. After the war, the Allied Control Council seized the company's assets. In 1951, the large group was split apart, and Bayer became its own company again.

Bayer continues to grow through large business deals today.

In 2016, Bayer merged with an American company called Monsanto. This was the largest purchase ever made by a German company. However, the deal caused many hard jobs for the company. They faced huge legal issues regarding a weed killer called Roundup. These legal battles caused big hits to the company's money and reputation. Even with these challenges, Bayer remains a massive name in science and medicine.
