His crew arrived at Cape Cod. They found many fish there. Gosnold also found an island. He named it Martha's Vineyard for his daughter. The crew tried to stay on Cuttyhunk Island. They wanted to build a small home. They traded with the Native people there. However, things became difficult. Some people were hurt. The settlers decided to go back to England.

Later, Gosnold helped start the Virginia Company. This group wanted to settle in Virginia. He helped recruit many people for the trip. He also helped design a fort. Gosnold sailed on a ship named the Godspeed. He arrived at Jamestown in 1607. Sadly, he died only four months later.
