The system has 12 lines. Two companies run these lines. One company is called TMB. The other is called FGC.

Some lines are being built right now. These are Line 9 and Line 10. They should be finished by 2030.

Three lines use driverless vehicles. This means the trains run without a driver. This started with Line 11. Then Lines 9 and 10 began running without drivers too. The tracks are very special. The metro uses three different track gauges. A gauge is the width between the rails. This metro is the only one in the world with both narrow and broad tracks.

There are 183 stations in the network. Most stations use stairs or elevators to reach the street. The trains even make their own power. They use regenerative braking to make power. This power helps charge nearby stations. This is a smart way to use energy.
