Tellers do many jobs. They take in deposits to save money. They also give out cash for withdrawals. Tellers can cash checks or move money between accounts. They might even help people get credit cards. Tellers must be friendly to customers. They also watch for fake money or bad checks. This helps stop theft at the bank.

In the United States, the number of tellers has changed. In 1970, there were about 300,000 tellers. That number grew to 600,000 by 2010. This happened partly because of ATMs. ATMs are machines that handle money. These machines let banks open more branches. More branches meant more jobs for tellers. Later, online banking grew. This led to fewer teller jobs in 2022.
