They sit in the sea near France. These islands are part of the Channel Islands. The group includes Alderney, Guernsey, and Sark. It also has many small rocks and reefs.

Guernsey is a special place. It is not part of the United Kingdom. It is a Crown Dependency. This means the British monarch is the head of state. The UK helps with defense and foreign rules. But the islands can rule themselves.

Many people live here. About 67,336 people call these islands home. Most live on the island of Guernsey. About 2,200 people live on Alderney. Only 600 people live on Sark.

History is very important here. Long ago, these islands were part of Normandy.

The map shows where the islands sit. The islands stayed loyal to the English Crown. This happened a long time ago in 1204. The water around the islands can be rough. Fast currents make sailing a bit tricky. The land goes from sea level to high hills.
