This food has a long history. The French brought baguettes to Vietnam in the 1860s. At first, the bread was a luxury. During World War I, bakers mixed in rice flour. This made the bread fluffier and cheaper. By the 1950s, a special style grew in Saigon. This became a popular street food.

Today, people eat bánh mì all over the world. You can find it in many countries like the United States and Australia. It is a wonderful mix of different food cultures.
