Asymmetric warfare is a type of fighting between two sides. These sides have very different levels of power. One side might have a huge army and many weapons. The other side is much smaller and has fewer tools.

The smaller side uses smart plans to win. They use the land to help them. They might hide in thick forests or high mountains. This makes it hard for a big army to find them.

In the Vietnam War, groups used deep tunnels to hide. This helped them move without being seen from the air. In the American Revolutionary War, a leader named Francis Marion used swamps to slow down the British.

Sometimes, the smaller side uses special tools. A small group can win if they have better technology. For example, the English longbow helped in an old battle.

Civilians, or people not in the army, can also help. They might share news about where a group is moving. This can change how the war ends.
