She was born in Denmark in 1881. Many people in Germany called her "Die Asta," which means "The Asta."

Asta changed how people acted in movies. Before her, acting was very big and loud. She used a more natural style. She used her large dark eyes to show deep feelings. This helped her become one of the first global movie stars.

She was very successful in Germany. She even had her own film studio in Berlin. In 1914, she earned 85,000 marks a year. This was a very high pay for a star.

Asta lived through hard times. During World War II, she helped people in need. She gave money to send food to a group called the Theresienstadt Ghetto.

Later in life, she made art and wrote books. She was a collage artist, which is a type of art made from many pieces. She lived to be ninety years old.
