Arsenide mineral

earth science Maturity 7-9 Next article →

Some rocks have a special part inside. We call this part an arsenide. An arsenide is a type of anion. An anion is a tiny part of a mineral. This anion is the main part of the rock.

Scientists study how to group minerals. They use two main systems. These are the Dana and Strunz systems. These systems put arsenides in a group with sulfides. Sulfides are minerals that contain sulfur.

There are many kinds of arsenide minerals. Each one has its own name. Some names are algodonite and domeykite. Others are called löllingite and nickeline.

You might also find rammelsbergite or safflorite. There is also skutterudite and sperrylite. These are all part of the same group. They all share that main arsenide part. It is a big family of minerals.
