He is often seen as a force for good. Even though he breaks the law, he often helps people. He is a very clever character. People love reading about his many adventures.

Lupin has many different ways of working. He uses disguises to stay hidden during his jobs. He is also a vegetarian for hygiene reasons. However, he will eat meat if he needs to. This helps him blend in with other people. He does not want to stand out while working. Being able to act like anyone is his greatest skill.

A French writer named Maurice Leblanc created Lupin. He first introduced the character in 1905. The first story was called "The Arrest of Arsène Lupin." It appeared in a magazine called Je sais tout.

Lupin was inspired by older characters. One was Rocambole, who was written by Pierre Alexis Ponson du Terrail. Another was A. J. Raffles, a thief written by E. W. Hornung.

Leblanc wrote many stories about this thief. He wrote 17 novels and 39 novellas. These stories were collected into 24 different books. One book is called The Secret Tomb from 1923. In that story, a character named Dorothée solves a secret. Some stories even have fantasy elements in them. One story features a radioactive stone called a "god-stone." Another story is about the Fountain of Youth.

Lupin is famous for meeting detectives. He often faces a man named Herlock Sholmès. This character is very similar to Sherlock Holmes.

Leblanc used the name Sholmès to avoid legal problems. In a 2008 video game, Lupin tries to steal five British items. He wants to do this to humble England. Even so, he still admires the detective. This rivalry makes the stories very exciting to read.
