Arrigo Sacchi

sports Maturity 7-9 Next article →

Arrigo Sacchi is a famous soccer coach from Italy. He was not a pro player. For many years, he worked as a shoe salesman. Some people doubted him because of this. He joked that you do not need to be a horse to be a jockey. This meant he did not need to be a player to be a great coach.

Sacchi led the team AC Milan to great success. His team won the Serie A title in 1988. They also won two European Cups in a row. He used a special way to train. He used "shadow play." This is when players move together without a ball. He wanted them to work as one team. He also used a high defensive line. This kept the players close together on the field.

Sacchi also coached the Italy national team. He led them to the 1994 World Cup final. Italy lost to Brazil in a penalty shoot-out. This was the first time a final used a shoot-out. Many experts call him a legend. They say he changed how soccer is played today.
