It is made from coffee beans. People often add spices like cardamom. Some also use cloves or saffron.

Making the drink is a careful way of working. First, people roast green beans in a pan. Next, they crush the beans in a tool called a mihbaj. This tool can be made of wood or stone. The sound of the mihbaj hitting the mortar tells neighbors that guests are welcome.

The coffee is often bitter. Because of this, people serve it with sweet treats. They might eat dates, nuts, or dried fruit. This helps balance the strong taste.

Serving coffee is a way to show kindness. In the Levant, the host pours coffee for guests. They move in a circle. It is polite to accept three small cups.

In some places, people even read patterns in the cup. This is a fun way to tell fortunes. Arabic coffee is a very important part of culture. UNESCO even recognizes it as a special heritage.
