life science Maturity 11-13 Next article →

There is a group of tiny living things called Aphelida. They belong to a large group called fungi. Scientists think they are very close to true fungi. You can think of them as sisters to real mushrooms.

These small lives are part of a big tree of life. This tree is called Opisthokont. This group includes many different kinds of life.

Scientists use special names to sort them. One group is called Aphelidiomycetes. This is a class, which is a way to group them. Another group is the family Aphelididae.

There are also different kinds called genera. One kind is named Aphelidium. Another kind is named Paraphelidium. You might also find Amoeboaphelidium or Pseudaphelidium.

Experts like Tedersoo and Gromov have studied them. They help us learn how life is related. It is a big puzzle to solve. We are still learning about these tiny things every day.
