Anurognathidae were a family of small flying reptiles. They lived long ago during the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods. These animals lived in Europe, Asia, and maybe North America.

Anurognathids were quite small. Their wings could spread up to 900 mm wide. They had very short tails. Many had large eye sockets. These big eye holes helped them see in low light. Scientists think they may have been nocturnal. This means they were active at night, much like bats.

Most of these creatures ate insects. Some, like Jeholopterus, might have eaten fish. Some lived in trees. They had claws for gripping branches.

Scientists are still studying their bodies. They found special shapes on some fossils. These look like proto-feathers. Proto-feathers are simple structures like early feathers. Some experts think these shapes came from parts of the wing breaking down. They are still looking for more clues to be sure.
