Their wings were not just simple flaps. They were made of skin and muscle. This skin stretched from their ankles to one very long finger. Tiny fibers helped keep the wing strong.

These animals came in many sizes. Some were very small. Others were huge. The largest ones had wingspans of at least nine meters.

Pterosaurs were warm-blooded. This means they could keep their bodies warm. They had hair-like fuzz called pycnofibers. These fibers may have helped them stay warm.

Their bones were very special. The bones were hollow and filled with air. This made them light enough to fly. They also had air sacs to help them breathe. This gave them plenty of oxygen for their strong muscles.
