The city is also the seat of one of Chile's three environmental courts. For travelers, the Tropic of Capricorn Monument is a key landmark. 

The city also maintains a connection to local nature through urban wetlands. These wetlands provide habitats for native reptiles and arthropods. Birds like the Calidris and mammals like the culpeo fox also visit these areas.
